Today the kids were playing around in the back yard when Jonah climbed the cherry tree and spotted a nest. He grabbed the camera, climbed the tree again to take a picture when he realized there was a baby bird in the nest. He and Mason would climb the tree every hour to check on the bird and then there was another baby and then another. Three baby birds in the nest. The best picture only shows two of them. One time when Jonah went to check on the babies, he came back inside and reported that there were many full grown birds all around staring at him so he decided not to climb up to the nest, "I figured I should just let the birds do their thing."
I made these apple smiles along with lunch today. I saw them on a news special on healthy snacks for kids. I thought they turned out quite cute. My kids liked the looks of them but didn't like the peanut butter on the apples all that well. We tried them without peanut butter but then the marshmallows don't stay on very well.

Those birds are really cool. It's impressive that Jonah was able to get so close to them. I love the little magic that happens all around us when we just open ourselves up to it.
